MRC FILM AND T-STREET PARTNER ON EMERGING FILMMAKERS LABEL

mrc t-street logo

Aims To Launch Commercially Minded Writers/Directors With Distinct Voices

Beverly Hills, CA – (April 29, 2021) – Leading independents MRC Film and T-Street today announced a new label for emerging filmmaking voices with a mission to support artists who have a singular voice and a distinctive point of view. The new venture was unveiled jointly by MRC Film Co-Presidents Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman and T-Street cofounders Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman. T-Street’s Ben LeClair will oversee day-to-day management.

  • MRC Film and T-Street will streamline what can oftentimes be a challenging journey to get low budget films made.
  • The label’s goal is to make 3-4 films per year at a modestly budgeted price and with distribution flexibility.
  • The two companies will be hands on and support filmmakers with their collective resources and infrastructure.
  • T-Street was founded by Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman in 2019.
  • MRC Film is a division of global entertainment company MRC, which has a minority equity stake in T-Street.
  • Said Adler and Golfman: “MRC and T-Street have always had the shared value of wanting to create environments that allow artists to make creatively ambitious movies that can break out commercially. Providing this support and opportunity to filmmakers early in their career is the natural extension of this mission. We are excited to continue our partnership with T-Street and look forward to making lots of movies together.”
  • Said Johnson and Bergman: “We’ve experienced the importance of having partners like MRC who understand and protect a filmmaker’s vision, and that becomes all the more crucial when you’re navigating these waters for the first or second time. For us, this is about finding and working with great people as much as it is about making great films.”
  • T-Street was launched in 2019 by Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman, whose credits together include the Academy Award nominated Knives Out, which they are currently preparing the follow up to, which Johnson is writing and directing; as well as Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Looper; T-Street is currently producing “Three Body Problem” alongside David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo for Netflix and will produce “Poker Face,” starring Natasha Lyonne with MRC Television for Peacock. MRC is a minority investor in T-Street, with a first-look deal across film and television.
  • T-Street is represented by CAA and attorney Stephen Clark.
  • MRC Film is a leading independent studio known for championing singular filmmakers and emerging directors to make high-quality distinctive films and for its selective investments in major studio films, collectively which have earned more than $6 billion in worldwide box office and received accolades including 12 Academy® Award nominations and 11 Golden Globe® Award nominations. MRC Film projects include: upcoming Netflix film The Mothership, starring Halle Berry; the highest grossing original R-rated comedy of all time, Ted; Oscar® and Golden Globe nominated Knives Out; Oscar nominated Baby Driver; Oscar-winning Babel; and recent comedy The Lovebirds. MRC Film has co-financed films including upcoming Peter Rabbit 2, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, the second and third installments of Hotel Transylvania, 22 Jump Street, and Think Like a Man Too. MRC Film recently announced three labels: Landline Pictures led by Amy Baer, with a focus on the 50+ audience; the yet-untitled female comedy driven label led by Becky Sloviter; and the unnamed romance focused label led by Elizabeth Cantillon.
