MRC TELEVISION SCORES STUDIO BEST SEVEN GOLDEN GLOBE® NOMINATIONS

MRC TV

“Ozark” and “The Great” Receive Nominations Across Drama and Comedy Television Categories

Beverly Hills, CA – (February 3, 2021) – Leading independent studio MRC Television received seven Golden Globe® Award nominations for its critically-acclaimed series “Ozark” and “The Great.” Both series were each honored by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association with show, actor, and actress nominations for Drama and Comedy for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

MRC has consistently received awards recognition for its programs for more than a decade. The studio’s film and television projects have been nominated for a collective 29 Golden Globe Awards, 94 Primetime Emmy® Awards, 12 Academy Awards® and 2 GRAMMY Awards®, among other nominations.

“As an independent, it’s incredibly rewarding to receive this recognition from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for ‘Ozark’ and ‘The Great’,” said MRC Television President Elise Henderson.  “Congratulations to our first time and returning nominees; we salute our hard-working cast and crews, our network partners and our entire team at the studio.”

“Ozark,” which recently announced its fourth and final season, took home four nominations for its third season, including its first Best Drama series Golden Globe nomination, bringing its total nominations for the series to six. The thrilling drama, set in the present-day, follows the Byrde family’s journey from their normal, suburban Chicago life to their dangerous criminal enterprise in the Ozarks, Missouri. Jason Bateman, who stars as Marty Byrde, received his third consecutive nomination for this series, while star Laura Linney was recognized with her first “Ozark” Golden Globe nomination for her role as Wendy Byrde. Julia Garner picked up her first-ever Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Ruth Langmore in the series. Season three series regulars also include Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Charlie Tahan, Lisa Emery, Janet McTeer, Tom Pelphrey, and Jessica Frances Dukes.

“The Great,” which is currently in production on its second season, received three nominations including Best Comedy, Actress for star Elle Fanning, who plays Catherine, and Actor for Nicholas Hoult, who plays Peter. From Oscar-nominated writer Tony McNamara (The Favourite), the comedy series chronicles the genre-bending, anti-historical ride through 18th Century Russia and follows the wildly comedic rise of Catherine the Nothing to Catherine the Great. The series also stars Phoebe Fox, Sacha Dhawan, Charity Wakefield, Gwilym Lee, Adam Godley, Douglas Hodge, Belinda Bromilow, and Bayo Gbadamosi.

Since “Ozark” first premiered on Netflix in 2017, the series has garnered six Golden Globe nominations, thirty-two Emmy nominations with three wins to date, and six Screen Actors Guild nominations. Emmy Award nominee Chris Mundy serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Bateman, Mark Williams, John Shiban, Patrick Markey, and Bill Dubuque serve as executive producers.

“The Great” received two Emmy nominations, a Critics’ Choice Awards nomination, and a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for its first season, which debuted on Hulu in 2020. The series is created, written and executive produced by Tony McNamara and executive produced by Marian Macgowan, Thruline’s Josh Kesselman and Ron West, Echo Lake’s Brittany Kahan Ward, Doug Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding, Elle Fanning, Mark Winemaker, and Matt Shakman. The series is produced by Civic Center Media in association with MRC Television.

Current production projects for MRC Television include “The Shrink Next Door” starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd, written by Georgia Pritchett, and directed by Michael Showalter, and “Shining Girls” starring Elisabeth Moss and written by Silka Luisa, both for Apple TV+; and “The Terminal List” with Amazon Studios, starring and executive produced by Chris Pratt, directed by Antoine Fuqua, and written by David DiGilio based on the book by Jack Carr.

MRC’s partner, A24, where it holds a minority investment, also received 3 nominations for its projects: television series “Ramy;” and films Minari and On The Rocks
